Winter Walk Day

Winter is as good a time as any to walk. Schools, youth groups organizations, work places, other groups, families or groups of friends are invited to walk to school or work, have an intentional walk or go for a hike at school or work on Winter Walk Day. Don't let cold, wind, snow or rain keep folks from heading out for a walk. If they dress properly and practice winter safety, they're ready to go! Walking is fun when you walk together. It's good for our bodies because of the extra physical activity. It's good for the Earth if you walk as transportation because it cuts down on the number of polluting cars on our streets. Hold your Winter Walk Day on any day in February.

Register

Sign up your school, youth group organization, work place, other group, family or group of friends for Winter Walk Day and qualify for prizes and resources as an official SUPPORTER of Take the Roof Off Winter. When you register your school, youth group organization, work place, other group, family or group of friends, it will be recognized on the Take the Roof Off Winter web site and listed on the events page. It will also receive a free Winter Walk Day Kit.

All supporters will receive:

• 7 toques to give away
• Full colour Winter Walk Day posters

In addition to the above, schools and youth groups will receive:

• Black and white photocopy masters of the following:
  • 8.5 x 11 inch flyer
  • Template to use for announcements, in the school newsletter, etc.
  • Winter Walk Day teachers / activity guide (with elementary curriculum links)

When you register and receive your free Kit, you commit to doing these five steps :

• Choose a day in February as Winter Walk Day (fill this in on your posters and other promotional materials).
• Give away the Take the Roof Off Winter toques to participants.
• Promote the event to participants using the promotional materials provided.
• Educate participants on winter walking safety.
• Tell us how your event went: how many participated and what made your event special or unique.

Schools, youth group organizations, work places, other groups, families or groups of friends**may also borrow a Take The Roof Off Winter banner for display by contacting their regional Take The Roof Off Winter Ambassador.

Take advantage of the Kids Zone section of the web site and encourage children and youth to enter the Creative Expressions contest or use the Kids Activity sheets.
